Born in Damascus, Syria, in 1991, Noor Bahjat lives and works in the UAE. She graduated cum laude at Damascus Fine Arts Academy. Noor’s figurative style is surreal, expressionistic and full of cultural symbolism. She mainly investigates figurative subjects and recurring female protagonists, identified as self-portraits. After visiting the Philippines in 2016, her palette and visual narrative changed drastically, shifting to backgrounds illuminated by details that incorporate elements of nature and water in her portraits. She describes imaginative tales densely populated with iconographic and symbolic themes invoking a return to the mythic dimension of naturalness.
Her work has been shown in several collective exhibitions and two personal shows, one in Dubai and the other in Manila (Ayyam Gallery)
