FRANCESCA MARIOTTI (Varmo, Udine, 1918 – Verrua Savoia, Torino 2004)
A homemaker by profession, she lived in a psychiatric hospital since 1961. Discharged in 1998, she spent the last years of her life in a territorial community. Francesca Mariotti’s exclusive creations are miniature jackets made of wool knits. She claimed to produce them for the children of the Third Army, for the children of the graduates and the General. They were divided by color according to use: for school, hospital, etc.; different colors were to correspond to different ranks. In fact, they are works designed within a private and intimate context, excluding the gaze of others.
